Understanding and Supporting Your Teenagers – few spaces left and I’m not doing it again!

School libraries and my books

I love it when schools put a display of books together to draw readers to a topic. I’m lucky enough that this happens with my books a lot, because I seem accidentally to have created a niche for myself in writing about teenage* wellbeing. I didn’t plan that – but I’m so passionate about the topic that I just can’t stop writing the things!

(*Actually, I’ve just had a lovely invitation to talk to some school librarians about their own well-being. When a school gives resources to the well-being of its staff, you know that school cares properly about its students, too. How can the students be treated properly if the adults around them are mentally unhealthy?)

Anyway, I thought I’d put a few of the displays I’ve seen here. (Do send me yours if you’d like me to add it.) You’ll notice that some of them are for one of my novels, Fleshmarket. Yes, I used to be an award-winning teenage novelist and hope to be so again one day, when I’ve finished writing about well-being. Meanwhile, many schools read Fleshmarket as a class reader in Year 7 or 8 (S1 or 2 in Scotland). It has a reputation for turning non-readers onto books. I blame the operation without anaesthetic…
